Amazing Western and Southern Beaches in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is an amazing island which floats in the Indian Ocean. Hence, it is rich with stunning beaches and coastal areas. Most of the hotels and resorts are located near the coastal areas because of the lovely environment they have. Another attraction of the seacoast is the nearby towns and villages such as Galle.    

The western and southern beaches in Sri Lanka begin from Negombo which is located 13 kilometers north to Colombo and ends from Hambanthota. Around 275 kilometers are covered by this coastal line. Many world renowned beaches can be seen in this region including Negombo beach, Mt. Lavinia, , Beruwala, Benthota, Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Koggalaa, Galle, and Tangalle.     

Negombo Beach

It is one of the better beaches in the western coastal area. Most parts of the Negombo beach are maintained by tourist hotels. Rest is always busy with fishermen and their activities. This beach is also popular for water sports and diving. This is an attractive beach that you must see while travelling from or to Bandaranayke International Airport. 

Beruwala Beach

This is one of the breathtaking beaches in Sri Lanka also referred as ‘Golden Mile’. It is a fantastic sandy beach which protected by the palm trees along the seaside. This is a wide beach that basks in the fantastic exotic sun from the direction of the ocean. The beach is well shaded with the lavish plants of the landslide. Beruwala is a safe place to swim throughout the year. It is also an ideal place for various water sports activities such as para-sailing, windsurfing, water scooter rides, coral reef diving, and deep-sea fishing.

Benthota Beach

Another wonderful beach situated in the southern coastal area. This beach is consisting with many high-class resorts and facilities which impress any visitor. This is a perfect location for long holidays. Benthota beach is ideal for water sports and will give a stunning experience. Bentota beach ensures safe swimming and suitable for any water sport including diving, water-skiing, snorkeling, wind surfing, sailing, and deep-sea fishing.

Unawatuna Beach

This is a wonderful semi-circular beach which stretches not more than one kilometer. This is covered by fine coconut trees similar to many beaches in the southern coastal area. However, Unawatuna beach has many wonderful sceneries and picturesque geographical occurrences. Unawatuna beach is also an ideal place for water sports. Visitors may also observe turtles laying eggs along the coast.

Hikkaduwa

This is the place to visit colorful fish and corals while experiencing the beauty of the nature. Hikkaduwa beach owns the best coral garden in South Asian region. This is also the best place for diving enthusiasts to explore the stunning beauty of the sea and four different shipwrecks.  

Tangalle

It is one of the breathtaking and the largest beaches in Sri Lanka. Tangalle is a popular tourist destination in the island because of white sandy beaches, safe swimming, reasonable diving and basking sun.
